Huawei phones that are kernel compatibe to Ascend G600

Quick question: Doesn't the U8951 (G510) come with a MediaTek SoC? Wouldn't that render its kernel source incompatible the U8950 (which comes with a Qualcomm MSM8225)?

According to the information on gsmarena and huaweidevices.de the G510 ( U8951 ) is also based on MSM8225. This also matches the information I found in the kernel sources. There might be another version (maybe T8951) that is based on MTK chipset.

Ach so. Well, I'm not complaining :P In other news, I guess I'm nearly done cloning the AOSP repo (10 odd gigs done so far). Hopefully it'll all be over in a couple of days. In the meantime, I'll start researching on kernel dev and suchlike. If you've got any suggestions, please let me know.

PS: Did you have any luck porting the G510's JB binary directly, like you said you were going to?

PPS: How large exactly is the entire AOSP repo, do you know? The .repo directory of my local tree is around 12 gigs at the moment. And lately, repo sync keeps hanging up on me. What a nightmare!

Okay, I'm done messing around with the repo tool - 23 gigs of code and it still isn't finished!! Is there a torrent or a tarball of the 4.2.2_r1 branch that I can download? Or would you be kind enough to compress and upload your working dir for me? I'm getting desperate here clearly...

Wow seeing this forum made my day, there are actually people working on this phone!!! :D

If a jellybean rom can actually be created (like cyanogenmod or something), I would gladly donate, definitely :)

Wish I knew how to help, this phone can handle so much more than the stock ICS allows :-(
What programming languages do I need to learn in order to develop Android ROMS? I wish I knew all this stuff...

I don't think that there is any torrent for JB 4.2.2 branch..
At least I'm able to download JB 4.2.2.r1 (CM10.1) sources (24 GB) in 30/40 minutes (internet connection speed 10 Mb/s)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'll be able to build the source even if I don't fetch the device-samsung/lge/asus/ti, right? Just not for those devices, which I'm not gonna regardless. Then I can remove their entries from the manifest file.

As far as I know you need to check the build scripts in this case. I had cases where the build failed just because I did not have all device sources (even those I did not use). Newer Cyanogen build scripts seem to be more clever as far as I know.

Regarding my attempts to use the G510 binaries I don't have any real progress. I am struggling to find a good recovery in order to backup my existing system before I flash something new. I do however plan to give it another try end of this week. I will keep you updated.

Have you tried these: 1 | 2? And further along in the XDA thread was a link to CWM 6.0.something.

Any developments on this front? I haven't had a chance yet to look further into my repo troubles but did manage to drop my phone in the drink. Even 4 days of being buried in uncooked rice couldn't get it back to shape, gave it up at the customer service center yesterday. Only God knows how much I'll have to shell out
