Can somebody confirm the T8950 isn't locked?

Hi,
can somebody confirm the T8950 isn't locked?
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-5985500-1-1.html

Anyway, I was planning to check it with the fastboot oem get-bootinfo
command. But I do not seem to get in the fastboot mode (V- and power). I can get in the recovery mode (V+ and power) though. I tried a lot of times, holding the buttons every possible combination between 10 and 30 seconds

Because the normal mode wasn't working, I also tried it via the adb command adb reboot bootloader. Also then the phone is only shutting down and starting up normally. I can find my phone with the adb devices command.

I reset my phone to default factory settings, but that didn't help.
I can enter the recovery mode, can I reinstall the original ROM of Huawei and try again?

thanks

Hi TeTTiweTTi,

the list of kernel compatible phones I posted here suggests that the T8950 is not really hardware compatible to the C8950 and U8950(D). Thus it could behave much different to these Ascend G600 models. I suspect that the T8950 model could be based on the Mediatek MT6577 platform. For MTK based phones there is no fastboot mode. The firmware can be downloaded to a powered-off phone by connecting it via USB to a PC that runs special software. This would also explain why you did not have any success with fastboot.

Cheers,

Dopi

P.S.: I created a new topic for your post.

Dopi, Hi,

thanks for your help. I did a google search and it seems you are correct. In that case th T8950 is mentionned together with the U8950 wrongly on a lot of forums.

There's a lot of information available on the MT6755, but can you also set my on the way how to install other firmware on the phone.
Much appreciated,

Dopi, Thanks for the usefull information. It really set my on the right track

- the bootloader of the T8950 is not locked, so it does not need to be unlocked.
- The T8950 does indeed not have a fastboot mode. the CWM custom recovery can be installed by flashing the ROM using the Flash tool of Mediatek

this is how I did it.

INSTALLING THE CMW CUSTOM RECOVERY TOOL
---------------------------------------------------------
tutorial: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.c ... orial.html
the correct files to use in the tutorial can be found here:
- SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1224.01 --> http://www.mediafire.com/?c8lr368ceaqk7tv
- MediaTek DA USB VCOM drivers --> http://www.mediafire.com/?h0ytkyagj0kf89u

if all went well, you should have a different recovery screen now.

ROOTING
-----------
Tutorial: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.c ... overy.html
The fileto be used is:
- RootT8950.zip --> http://www.mediafire.com/?je47wz2ozjr7oth

After the update is finished, reboot . Now, you should see Superuser in your Huawei T8950 app list. You can double check if you have root, using the "got root?" app.

INSTALLING THE GOOGLE SERVICES
------------------------------------------
Since the the CWM custom recovery tool is installed now and the phone is rooted, it's very simple to add the google services to the phone. I used the GAPPS of Cyanogen. You can find them on many places, e.g.
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/gapps-cyanogen/
choose the right version, most likely your T8950 will have android ICS 4.0.4

istallation is the same as installing the rooting ROM
