Android 3.0 Platform Highlights

Postby Dopi » Tue Mar 01, 2011 10:25 pm

I don't know who old this information really is, but it still has a "new" tag on ;) I just noticed that Google made some nice highlights on their Honeycomb platform available. If you are interested, have a look here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-3.0-highlights.html.

Cheers,

Windows SDK 3.0 start it and then using android commander "windows" connect and browse and copy files out.
You can also use tkfileexplorer "windows" and browse your samsung touchwiz on the phone and extract files from there.

Use caution when writing to touchwiz and android while they are running there is a correct method to do this without causing issues.

PS> you would need to have the adb part of the SDK installed as well

You will need the /system and what is the root folder or folder that would have /data and zImage and init.rc type files. Not sure if you would be able to loop mount the root.img and system.img as you might need to install a few more files to make this happen in linux.

You can also check in the "program files" folder in windows of the android directory there should be the system.img and root.img or a combined version of this that will make up the running SDK 3.0 version and is loaded on the SDK 3.0 start.

PS> 3.0 is for tablets. 2.3.3 and soon 2.3.4 would be the next mobile phone version. 3.0 runs on Jet but needs a lot of playing with to make it work and to activate it's phone type parts that can work on tablets as well.

two steps forward and one step back!! lol cheers ill attempt that later. something i've noticed whilst switching between zimages is tha with dopis latest in his git hub 3bob25f file im having calander issues and it connects but doesnt?? if that makes sense, like wifi scans and connect but doesnt actually let me browse..whilst with a zimage u compiled erm platform binary 72dc8f9 one vibration workss better but no wifi connection, why cant i go online!! my theory is that if you tried an update thru the handset its self then isnt it possible it would sync things?or is that just wishful thinking haha. if you could can u pm a raw dump of a up to scratch platform an kernel so i can test and ponder, might see something one of u over looked? cheers dude!!

I have had the Jet-2.3.3 show connecting to wifi but never connects as this is the closest I got to wifi working, Froyo and ginger I did get it to connect but lost that files / info, did not have much time to test latest kernels with froyo and above.

The best kernels to use is Dopi and KB, some of mine is purely to test one specific feature that we are trying to make work and then once successful with that one piece we can integrate it for everyone.

Having normal features like sync and other works depends on what you had active when you made the SDK virtual machine, did you select bluetooth and wifi and set camera + custom resolutions etc and once this was running then copied the files out as this seems to make a difference to what works.

You might need to install tablet Gapps for 3.0 and this could fix sync.

Update would not work as there is no S8000 samsung that has Android on the servers somewhere or links to where such a file might be so it is chasing gorillas in the mist.

If you want a update then you/we have to make it happen + lots of testing and building etc.

You might want to make a github account and then push the files to github and anyone else that wants to can jump in and help to make it work. Amazing that you had the wifi working.
