JetKernel 2.6.29 testing release 2011-02-01

Postby Dopi » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:28 pm

Hi JetDroid testers,

please find attached a new kernel test releases that aims at including all patches that have been around. The files have been compiled from JetKernel repo commit aefb54d2d018dac1ac0b and JetKernel_modules commit 64a2c7095b7e2abb1d44.

The following new features have been added. They may not be working completely, please test!
  • Real Time Clock (RTC) reading [vaclavpe]
  • Acceleration sensor driver [KB_JetDroid]
  • Compass sensor driver [KB_JetDroid]
  • Added btgpio, s3c_cmm, s3c_g2d, s3c_g3d, s3c_jpeg, s3c_mfc, s3c_pp, s3c_rotator, multipdp and vibetonz (vibrator) kernel modules [Thijs]
  • basic sound driver (now working yet) [vaclavpe]
  • basic ambient light sensor driver (needs some work) [vaclavpe]
  • Default touchscreen calibration is included in kernel image (no /boot/append-jet file is needed) [Dopi]
  • Slightly improved display driver (should show black lines but not crash) [Dopi]

I hope I did not forget anything (or more importantly any credit). Thanks to everyone who helped achieving this. In case you have any additional patches, please send them to me for inclusion in the kernel repo or PM me for repo access.

Happy testing!

Cheers,
Dopi

Sorry, I did not give any install instructions. The archive does just contain the kernel image and the kernel module. Thus it needs to be extracted to the ext2/3 jetroid root (e.g. /mnt/JetDroid/) of a complete JetPlatform install.

@Jose: Does this help? Can you post the last output you see?

Cheers,
Dopi

FWIW, I think its a fault with the zimage not the modules,
if i remove the modules, i get the same fault
If i use the old zimage, the system boots (but no extra sensors)

not very scientific, but may help, batt flat now so cant carry on

cheers

The problem could be related to the 2D/3D files as I tried this on the Jet-Froyo beta1 that does not have this 2D/3D files and booted without issues and using only /system/lib/egl/libGLES_android.so and new kernel modules that does not load as using old init.rc.

Jet-Eclair 2D/3D clone has this ioctl error in android.log
Code: Select all

Might need to try with previous s3c_g3d.ko and s3c_g2d_driver.ko and see if any better.

The modules " *.ko " for 2d / 3d looks solid and works with the previous kernel and last init.rc from 2D_3D_acceleration_working.tar.gz . With this modules I am able to see alternative ringtones tha can be selected if the media folder has these ringtones.

The 2011-02-01 kernel calibration appears a bit off. Tried it with 240 200 160 120 and could not get the calibration correct. Tried it in Froyo, 2.1, pre0.3 same results. Not sure if combination of 3d driver and kernel might fix calibration. egl folder has no fimg files then it boots.

Tearing / flickering is in the fimg files = 2D_3D_acceleration_working.tar.gz kernel + init.rc + egl folder + 2011-02-01 modules and works well. Very nice and responsive in wallpaper select view in "Jet-2.1update"
