what would keep us from providing an unrooted JetPlatform (that is prepared for rooting and maybe already contains the superuser.apk)

Cheers,

I like this idea. In general we could integrate a few "must have" apps as an option in the JetPlatForm (e.g. superuser, terminal, file manager, Gapps, ...). So the user decided which apps he installs, but they are delivered with the platform.

This means additional work to maintain two binary releases. If we have the resources to provide this it would not be a bad idea. On the other hand, what would keep us from providing an unrooted JetPlatform (that is prepared for rooting and maybe already contains the superuser.apk) and an easy-to-install rooting kit. If I am not totally wrong rooting is primarily about replacing the su command. That should not be too difficult to put into an archive, right?

Cheers,
Dopi

I could quite easily create an extractable tar to do this, I should be able to set all the permissions correctly before archiving them up. All people would need to do is download, copy to root of sd and extract.

Actually off the top of my head, rooting even from scratch is just:

Code: Select all
cp Superuser.apk /media/JetDroid/system/app
chmod 777 /media/JetDroid/system/app/Superuser.apk
cp su /media/JetDroid/system/bin
chown root /media/JetDroid/system/bin/su
chmod 6777 /media/JetDroid/system/bin/su

Done.

Google Apps is something that might have to stay outside due to copyright reasons. But I think we have a reasonable install method for them already.

I think this would be a good solution. Comments?

It will do, cyanogenmod were threaten to remove it and stop distributing it in their releases. What they do now when they apply an updated rom is to 'backup' the gapps from the existing system, update with their release/platform/kernel and then 'restore' the gapps from the backup.

Yes. This is what I meant. However, we should make it as easy as possible to install them.
